Hashtags in Communication Research and Practice
The specialization module introduces the hashtag phenomenon in social media. Students explore the use of hashtags in different communication fields. This may include examples like #metoo, #bodypositivity, #BlackLivesMatter, #tbt, #distractinglysexy, #shoutyourabortion, #whyIstayed, #bringbackourgirls, #diversity, #love, #ALSIceBuckedChallenge. Students systematically review the current state of hashtag research. Finally, they develop research ideas suitable for future empirical studies (e.g., their own future Master theses).
