DAAD Prize for Outstanding Achievements by International Students at German Universities 2020

Every year, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) awards the DAAD Prize to non-German students who are studying in Germany and have distinguished themselves through outstanding academic achievements and remarkable social or intercultural commitment.

Edwin Ricardo Gamboa was honored with the DAAD award for his outstanding achievements.

This year, Edwin Ricardo Gamboa received the DAAD Prize, endowed with 1,000 euros, for his outstanding achievements and exceptional socio-political and social commitment. The prize was presented by Sophia Siegfried, Head of the University's International Office.

A native of Colombia, Gamboa joined TU Ilmenau's Department of User-Centered Analysis of Multimedia Data as a PhD student in September 2019 after completing his Master's degree in Systems and Computer Engineering at the Universidad del Valle in Cali, Colombia, with a grade of 1.1. He had already become acquainted with the university in the winter semester 2015/2016 as an exchange student at TU Ilmenau through the DAAD funding program "Young Engineers" and completed a stay as a guest researcher at the Institute of Media Technology at TU Ilmenau and Fraunhofer IDMT from January to March 2019. "Mr. Gamboa is a top scientist who already published his first articles after completing his bachelor's degree in 2016 and has already published two papers in journals and received various scientific awards in his first year of doctoral studies," Sophia Siegfried praised his achievements. In addition, Edwin Ricardo Gamboa teaches Bachelor's and Master's students in media technology, volunteers as coordinator of the Spanish language meeting at ISWI e. V. and supports students at his home university.
