New Managing Director of the Studierendenwerk Thüringen

Torsten Schubert (50) is the new managing director of Studierendenwerk Thüringen. He succeeded the long-serving managing director Dr. Ralf Schmidt-Röh, who retired from this position.

Torsten Schubert was born in Erfurt and studied business administration at the Friedrich Schiller University. After holding various professional positions, he joined the Stadtwerke Erfurt Group in 2004. He was successful in a tendering and selection process for the position of managing director of the Studentenendenwerk Thüringen and is looking forward to taking on the ambitious tasks and challenges of the Studierendenwerk in the coming years.

The Chairman of the Administrative Board of the Studierendenwerk, Professor Winfried Speitkamp, believes that the Studierendenwerk Thüringen is well positioned: "In Torsten Schubert, we are gaining a new managing director who is as experienced as he is committed and who will continue the successful work of the Studierendenwerk in the future and devote all his energy to the concerns and needs of the students."

In close cooperation with the universities and with major support from the Free State of Thuringia, the Studierendenwerk provides economic, social, health and cultural support for a total of around 50,000 students at its eight university locations. The services range from catering in the refectories and cafeterias to renting rooms in residential complexes to support in financing studies, general, psychosocial and legal counseling, childcare and cultural promotion of student
