In memoriam Prof. Heinz Eger

The Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Computer Science mourns the death of Professor Heinz Eger. Prof. Heinz Eger passed away on March 31, shortly after completing his 90th birthday. His last years were marked by illness, his last months by care.

Prof. Heinz Eger defined an era at the former Technische Hochschule Ilmenau and at the Technische Universität Ilmenau. In 1975, he was appointed Professor for Frontier Areas of Biomedical Engineering and taught at our university for about 40 years. As a university lecturer, colleague and also as a physician, he has shaped the education of biomedical engineers like no other and will be fondly remembered by many graduates. In 2013, the TU Ilmenau honored his work with the university medal.

In Bad Berka, as an interventional radiologist, he introduced coronary stenosis dilatation at an early stage. His activities also determined the profile of cardiac surgery far beyond the borders of Thuringia. Numerous patients owe Prof. Heinz Eger not only diagnostic assistance, but also rapid recovery through modern minimally invasive interventions.
His alert mind with diverse interests, his conversational enrichment and his expert advice will now be missed.
