Flag campaign for the elimination of violence against women

This year, the TU Ilmenau is again participating in the flag campaign of the TERRE DES FEMMES association on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November.

For one week, all members of the university will be able to see the action flags hoisted by the Division of Equality, Diversity and Health with the message "Live free - without violence". Division head Andrea Krieg: "Participation in the flag action is very important to us. It sends a signal against taboo and invisibility. Violence is an issue at universities, no different than in society. But it is an uncomfortable topic and I am often confronted with the statement that we don't have that at the university. We do, but we don't have the culture to make it discussable. The pandemic in particular has shown that violence has increased."

The action does not only line up with the flag action of the association TERRE DES FEMMES and supports the commitment of human rights organizations against violence in each expression. TU Ilmenau also wants to set a first sign against discrimination and racism. "So don't look away when you walk past the flags at the Humboldt Building," Andrea Krieg calls on the university's employees and students. "Become active and support the working group on anti-discrimination and anti-racism at TU Ilmenau, which was formed as part of the audit 'Shaping Diversity'."

Together with the TU Ilmenau, the city of Ilmenau is also drawing attention to this issue on the LED wall of the ice rink and with an action flag at the Amtshaus. In addition to a regularly running Power Point animation, attention is also drawn to the free nationwide help hotline on 08000 116 016.
