Prof. Kai-Uwe Sattler, President of TU Ilmenau, and Irena Michel, Managing Director of the "Agentur für Arbeit Thüringen Mitte", signed an agreement according to which the two partners will increasingly prepare pupils, students and graduates for the requirements of the labor market and support them in their career orientation.

The TU Ilmenau and the Employment Agency Thuringia Central will intensify their cooperation. In an official cooperation agreement signed today, January 12, 2023, the President of TU Ilmenau, Prof. Kai-Uwe Sattler, and Irena Michel, Managing Director of the Employment Agency Thuringia Central, declare their willingness to offer more career guidance services to pupils, students and university graduates. The aim of the collaboration is to counteract the shortage of personnel in the natural sciences and engineering on the Thuringian labor market.

The cooperation between the two partners is based on a comprehensive range of advice and support services for prospective students, students and graduates. Three pillars form the focal points of the joint work: study orientation at schools where the university entrance qualification is acquired, advising students with regard to the requirements of the national and international job market, and supporting graduates in the transition from study to work.

Application portfolio checks, self-marketing and start-ups

For example, students are given the opportunity to participate in events such as project days on STEM orientation. They can check their professional aptitude in subject-oriented tests conducted by the employment agency's business psychology service. In addition, the employment agency supports the TU Ilmenau at university fairs as well as in formats for study orientation such as the trial study or the CampusThüringenTour for schoolgirls.

In the study itself, interested parties can take advantage of individual consultations at the Academic Service Center (ASC). Experts from the Employment Agency will conduct application portfolio checks with them and provide strategies for successful self-marketing. The offer is also open to graduates of the TU Ilmenau. A job exchange of the employment agency as well as consultations and subsidies for business start-ups complete the offer.

With the intensified cooperation, the TU Ilmenau not only wants to support prospective students in their decision to study, but also prepare students and graduates more intensively for the requirements of the job market. To this end, the Employment Agency will inform the university in regular exchanges about current developments in the academic job market and the opportunities for university graduates in the region, throughout Germany and abroad.
