HIT@Home 2021: New edition of virtual university information day

On 24 April 2021, the university opened its doors virtually for the second time. Under the motto "HIT@HOME", anyone interested in studying at TU Ilmenau could bring the campus into their living room. The university offered a wealth of information, presentations and opportunities to talk.

Deep digital insights into courses and the university

The annual Open Day is essential for student recruitment and normally offers all those interested in studying in Ilmenau the opportunity to see for themselves the attractive range of courses on offer and the modern facilities at the university. Since it was not possible to hold this university-wide event in person this year, the information day was again offered virtually in 2021 after the premiere last year.

This year's HIT@Home also provided deep digital insights into the degree programmes of the TU Ilmenau, the university, the leisure activities of the university and the city. In addition to lectures on all study paths of the TU Ilmenau, there were exciting videos, tours through laboratories and examples of experiments. Employees of the university and the Studierendenwerk Thüringen were available in chats for all questions about studying, application and enrolment, housing and student financing.

High school students, their parents and other prospective students could register for one-on-one counseling sessions via WebEx video conference on the HIT@Home website. Two students invited students to take a live tour of campus on Instagram. To learn more about recreational opportunities and exciting student projects, staff members of the student clubs are available.

Extensive innovations in the courses of study

This year's information day placed particular emphasis on the extensive changes in the content, structure and study times of the degree programmes at TU Ilmenau that have just been decided. For example, new content from teaching and research will be integrated and some courses of study will be changed to 6 to 4, i.e. the Bachelor's course will in future comprise six semesters instead of seven and the Master's course four semesters instead of three. In addition, the University is introducing two new degree programs of study in the winter semester: the English-language Master's course "International Business and Economics" and the Bachelor's course "Business Administration with a Technical Orientation".

The information offered in the livestream was also actively used this year, and so the university was able to draw a very positive conclusion from the 2nd edition of the HIT@Home.
