The TU Ilmenau has been awarded the "TOP UNIVERSITY 2020" award in the university ranking of the university evaluation portal StudyCheck. Based on over 40,000 evaluations, the university occupies an excellent eighth place and received the "TOP UNIVERSITY in Germany" award from StudyCheck.de.

TU Ilmenau was rated particularly highly for the quality and supervision of its courses, the excellent career prospects for graduates, the university's modern facilities and the attractive campus with its diverse student club life. The fact that StudyChek's ranking reflects the direct, unvarnished assessments of the students themselves makes the president particularly happy. The independent university rating portal StudyCheck has enabled students and alumni to submit opinions on their studies since 2013. In addition, the portal presents in detail a total of around 600 colleges and universities in Germany with their range of courses and their ratings. With the StudyCheck University Ranking, Germany's largest university rating portal presents the most popular universities in Germany. Every year, StudyCheck awards ten universities and colleges in Germany as the top. The university ranking is based on all the testimonials published on StudyCheck.de from the previous calendar year. The ranking of the individual institutions is determined by the so-called score value, which is formed by the star rating and the recommendation rate of the students. The criterion for inclusion in the ranking was a minimum of 50 published evaluations. The award criterion for the "Top University" award is a minimum ranking in the top 10.
