The University Society Ilmenau - Friends, Sponsors, Alumni e.V. is reorganizing itself. Already in October, Prof. Peter Scharff, head of the Chemistry Group and former rector of the TU Ilmenau, was elected chairman of the association, succeeding Prof. Dagmar Schipanski. The members want to continue networking within the university as well as with industry and society and to involve TU Ilmenau alumni more closely.
With a new board as well as impulses and plans, the University Society Ilmenau - Freunde, Förderer, Alumni e.V. has started its work this year.
For us, the death of Prof. Schipanski was a great loss. With her scientific reputation and charisma, she worked tirelessly for our university and it will be difficult to replace her. Now we have to look to the future and continue to contribute to the university in her spirit.

Specifically, the University Society will increasingly fulfill its role as an interface between the university's faculties, industry and society, and will continue to network with stakeholders in all three areas. The first project of the University Society this year is the establishment of the new specialist committees "Industrial Engineering and Management and Systems Engineering" as well as "Power Electronics" and "Electrical Drives". Their members from research and industry are to advise the university with regard to the requirements of the economy for graduates of these fields of study. Work with the university's alumni will also pick up speed in this context. In cooperation with the AlumniCampus of the TU Ilmenau, alumni are to be increasingly involved in the further development of the TU Ilmenau.
We see ourselves as a bridge between the university, business and civil society and want to both bring suggestions into the TU Ilmenau and carry them out of the university. For this we need strong networks that we can fall back on.
The "Universitätsgesellschaft Ilmenau - Freunde, Förderer, Alumni e.V." (University Society Ilmenau - Friends, Sponsors, Alumni) sees itself as a link for all those who have an interest in the prosperity of the TU Ilmenau, especially in the promotion of its scientific, cultural and student life. It supports the university ideally and materially in fulfilling its scientific and humanistic educational tasks in academic teaching and research and is committed to preserving the tradition and identity of Ilmenau's engineering education. Currently, Prof. Peter Scharff, Prof. Jürgen Petzoldt, Dr. Bernd Jakob, Prof. Heinz Riesenhuber, Prof. Kai-Uwe Sattler, Frank Wicht, Petra Enders, Dr. Daniel Schultheiß, Marco Jacob and Rüdiger Horn form the board of the University Society.
