Summer School offers a glimpse into the world of electrochemistry

For a week, everything at Technische Universität Ilmenau revolved around electrochemistry. As part of the “Electrochemistry and Electroplating” Summer School, bachelor’s students and future professionals gained a comprehensive insight into a field of research that is of central importance for numerous future applications.

The program combined scientific lectures with lab sessions, group work, field trips, and opportunities for personal interaction on campus and throughout Ilmenau. Among other topics, participants explored battery technologies, hydrogen applications, and electrochemical surface engineering, and were able to immediately apply their theoretical knowledge in practical settings. The Summer School was supported by ZVO | Zentralverband Oberflächentechnik e.V..

Through discussions with academic staff and industry representatives, participants also learned about the “Electrochemistry and Electroplating” master’s program at TU Ilmenau, which is unique in Germany. The program combines a solid foundation in electrochemistry with practical applications in the fields of energy storage, energy conversion, and surface engineering. Through the close integration of science, research, and industrial practice, students acquire skills for key future fields in sustainable energy and production technologies.

The Summer School thus offered participants not only exciting insights into current research but also valuable guidance for their future academic and professional paths. Department Chair Prof. Andreas Bund:

We would like to thank all participants, speakers, and supporters for a successful event, and we look forward to welcoming some of the participants as students at our university in the near future.
