With optimal starting conditions for studies: TU Ilmenau welcomes new students

In October, numerous new students begin their studies at the TU Ilmenau. To ensure a successful start to their studies, the university supports them with a detailed introduction to their studies and provides them with tutors throughout the semester.

In October, the TU Ilmenau once again welcomes numerous first-year students to it's campus.

Shortly before the official start of studies, TU Ilmenau welcomes all first-year students with an introductory week. From October 2 to 9, the newly arrived students are familiarized with everyday study life at the university. Introductory events for each degree program, interdisciplinary refresher courses in mathematics, or informational presentations on offerings such as language courses or IT services give them a well-informed start to the winter semester.

Tutors accompany first-year students not only during the introductory week, but throughout the entire first semester. For the first-year students, they become a familiar face whom they can turn to at any time, as Manja Krümmer, student advisor at TU Ilmenau, explains:

The tutors help the new students with the transition from school to university so that they arrive stress-free in their everyday study life. Together with them, the students create schedules, go through the study regulations or are introduced to e-learning at TU Ilmenau.

Get to know culture on campus

For each course of study, students are assisted by two tutors from higher semesters of the same subject who pass on their experience to them. Even before the start of a semester, they are prepared for their tasks in training sessions. Master's students and first-year students from abroad can also contact tutors with their questions. The International Office's support network, we4you, takes intensive care of the needs of international students - starting with their arrival in Germany and their orientation at TU Ilmenau and ending with getting to know each other.

In addition to the introductory events in the faculties, the students of the TU Ilmenau also help the first-year students to quickly settle into everyday life at the university. In the ErstiWoche, a working group of the student council, they put together a detailed cultural and leisure program for their newly arrived fellow students. For one week, the freshmen can meet students across disciplines and make new friends at events such as a scavenger hunt through the city and campus, a game night or movie nights. They also get to know the cultural life on campus and discover clubs such as Team Starcraft, Hochschulfunk hsf or ILMPULS, in which they can try out practical skills alongside their studies.

The support at the TU Ilmenau during the start of their studies is gladly accepted by the first-year students every year and is rated with top marks in study rankings such as that of the ZEIT Campus. The students appreciate the very good support at TU Ilmenau, as Manja Krümmer says:

With the introductory study week and the support of the students by tutors, we create an optimal start to the studies. The students can network with each other and know who to contact if they have problems in their everyday studies.

Bachelor students can find the program of the introductory week here. Introductory days are also held for Master's students.
