Media Industries Conference in London

Miriam Bernhardt and Jonas Weber at the Media Industries Conference 2024 in London

The Media Industries Conference took place in London from April 16-19, 2024, and this time we were represented by our dear colleagues Miriam Bernhard and Jonas Weber. Miriam Bernhard made a valuable contribution with her presentation "How Can We Enable Our Organization to Unlearn? Comparative Case Studies in Journalistic Media Organizations", shedding light on the necessary process of unlearning in general and specifically within media organizations. In particular, the focus is on unlearning processes that slow down or prevent innovation.

At the same time, our external PhD student Anja Noster gave an insight into her work "Supporting Journalism in the Digital Age: A Comparative Study of Innovation Policies for Journalism Across Five Countries", in which she examines whether different countries have support programs for innovation in journalism and to what extent evaluation systems exist.

Jonas Weber enriched the conference with his presentation "The Market for Journalism Platforms in Germany: Managers' Learnings from Other Media Industries". Together with Prof. Dr. Christopher Buschow and Prof. Dr. Andreas Will, he examined the extent to which media managers in journalism take ideas from other industries, such as the film or music industry, and try to implement them in the journalism sector.

Miriam Bernhard and Jonas Weber's conference trip was sponsored by the FULM, the Equal Opportunities Council of TU Ilmenau, and proWiWi.

We hope to continue the many interesting discussions from London and would like to thank all those who contributed to our enriching experience!
