C. Willert auf der Konferenz in LissabonChristian Cierpka
M. Rossi auf der Konferenz in LissabonChristian Cierpka

This week the Technische Thermodynamik - Fachgebiet der TU Ilmenau was present in different ways on the 22nd INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON APPLICATIONS OF LASER AND IMAGING TECHNIQUES TO FLUID MECHANICS held from 29 June - 2 July 2026 in Lisbon.
The results of the First Defocus challenge have been presented in a Talk of Massimiliano Rossi
(Results of the First Defocus Particle Tracking Challenge M. Rossi S. Sachs an C. Cierpka)
The challenge serves as a benchmark for new development of algorithms on synthetic images. Direct measurements were performed by the international teams using the microchannel fabricated with a dry film resist technique at ZMN @ TU Ilmenau. The challenge is still available, feel free to test your code or experimental setup on this benchmark (Defocus Challenge | Technische Universität Ilmenau).
The second contribution were results obtained with the help of Stella (A modular framework for SpatioTemporal Event-based Lagrangian particLe trAcking) developed at Technische Thermodynamik - Fachgebiet der TU Ilmenau. Event-based cameras show a huge potential for turbulent flows and Chris Willert presented results obtained in the largest pipe flow experiment CICLoPE at Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna.
(Event-based 3d-Lagrangian Particle Tracking using Different Processing Strategies, C. Willert, S. Sachs, D. Schanz, C. Cierpka, M. Rossi, G. Bellani)
The toolbox is openly available and can be found here: GitHub - sesa1504/STELLA: STELLA - a modular framework for statiotemporal event-based Lagrangian particle tracking · GitHub We are happy to get your feedback.
Last but not least Christian Cierpka presented the birefringent particle tracking velocimetry, a versatile measurement technique for 3D3C multimodal measurements in microfluidics.
(Seeing double and benefiting from it - An easy way to perform 3D particle tracking, sizing and temperature measurements in microfluidics by C. Cierpka and J. König)
