The Technische Universität Ilmenau and the German Federal Institute of Risk Assessment’s DECIPHER project (www.tu-ilmenau.de/decipher) is designed to analyze and compare risk and crisis communication in seven countries during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a part of the project, DFG Mercator fellows from Italy, Norway, Sweden, and the US will join colleagues from Technische Universität Ilmenau to have an open research forum connecting the global challenges of communication during the COVID-19 pandemic to other risk and crisis contexts such as the emerging “monkey pox” situation, climate change, or the war in Ukraine.

The panel’s objective is to explore the multidisciplinary implications of translating science, designing better interventions for self-protective behaviors, and dealing with misinformation on international levels. The forum will consider how the convergence of science, technology, policy, and media creates opportunities and obstacles in societal-level crises.
