Seminar Recap: “Dimensions of Economics and Societal Transformation”

From May 5th to 9th, 2025, PhD students and researchers from Department of Economic Policy (TU Ilmenau) and Departments of Economics, Department of Business Dynamics, Innovation and Economic Change (Friedrich-Schiller University of Jena) took part in the seminar “Dimensions of Economics and Societal Transformation, held in Thiessow on the island of Rügen. The event offered a well-balanced mix of academic exchange and outdoor activities, creating an inspiring and motivating environment.

Each morning featured presentations and discussions on current research topics in economics and social change. Participants had the chance to share their own work, receive helpful feedback, and learn about others’ research. The afternoons were reserved for relaxing hikes along the Baltic Sea, offering time for informal conversations and reflection. Evenings were spent enjoying local food in nearby restaurants, followed by open roundtable discussions. These casual talks gave participants the chance to connect with one another and continue exchanging ideas in a friendly setting.

The seminar showed how academic work can be both productive and enjoyable when combined with nature and open conversation. For the participants, it was a valuable and refreshing experience — both professionally and personally. The mix of learning, sharing, and relaxing made this week a memorable part of their PhD journey.
