The Upcoming Digital Markets Act: A New Paper

The European Union intends to implement a new comprehensive regulation of the digital economy, targeting so-called "digital gatekeepers" - the so-called Digital Markets Act (DMA). The Ilmenau professors Oliver Budzinski (Chair for Economic Theory) and Juliane Mendelsohn (Juniorprofessor for Law and Economics of Digitization) provide an interdisciplinary in-depth analysis of the proposed DMA, combining both the economics and the legal perspective. In their paper "Regulating Big Tech: From Competition Policy to Sector Regulation?", they identify a number of economic and legal weaknesses of the current proposal.
