CSP Students at TU Ilmenau can become members of the prestigious Franco-German University (FGU)

For the first time, TU Ilmenau will offer the opportunity to obtain an international English-language double Master's degree with the University de Lorraine in Nancy, France, starting in the Winter semester 2024/25.

This creates a unique AI (artificial intelligence) engineering program with domain knowledge in communications and signal processing. Both universities have collaborated in pioneering research on tensor-based signal processing for many years. These techniques extend matrix-based algorithms to more than two dimensions to deal more efficiently with multi-dimensional data.

This double degree option increases the attractiveness of the international Master’s program “Communications and Signal Processing (CSP)” (https://www.tu-ilmenau.de/mscsp) for Bachelor graduates from TU Ilmenau who desire a career in international companies or in research. International students are given the unique opportunity to gain the best possible qualifications for the European academic and industrial job market. The selected students will become members of the  prestigious Franco-German University (FGU, https://www.dfh-ufa.org/en/) and gain a unique inter-cultural competence as well as additional networking opportunities.

Moreover, students who opt for this study model receive degrees from both universities after successfully completing their studies:

- Master of Science in Communications and Signal Processing, TU Ilmenau, Germany

- Master Ingénierie des Systèmes Complexes à l’Université de Lorraine, Nancy, France

CSP students of the TU Ilmenau can apply for this double degree program after the first semester of the Communications and Signal Processing (CSP) program. As the number of places is limited, the CSP examination board will select students on the basis of their academic performance.

The second semester continues with the courses of the CSP program. Students from Nancy join the courses and students from Ilmenau have the opportunity to prepare for their stay abroad and take language courses if necessary.

In the third semester, the students are in Nancy and attend lectures from the Master Ingénierie des Systèmes Complexes program, e.g., “Green IT”, “Detection, Estimation, Reconstruction” and “Numerical Optimization and Data Science”. The courses in Ilmenau and Nancy are taught entirely in English. This program also includes additional language training in German and French for non-native speakers.

The Master's thesis in the fourth semester can be completed either in Nancy or in Ilmenau, co-advised by professors from both universities.

The selected students thus receive a mobility grant from the FGU for their stay abroad. It is also possible to receive an Erasmus+ scholarship and/or BAföG abroad at the same time.

The contact person for this double master's program at the TU Ilmenau is Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Martin Haardt, who is responsible for the program.
