This doctoral thesis is centered on three terms: medium-voltage switchgear, asset management, and Digital Twins. Medium voltage switchgears serve as the topic of this thesis as they are central assets of distribution grids. After analyzing possible fault causes, the thesis places a specific emphasis on dielectric issues, caused by additional thermal stress or caused by insufficient dielectric strength. The concept of Digital Twins as a potential tool to provide added value is explored. The thesis presents specific models that address practical questions related to fault causes and analysis. These questions enable a comprehensive discussion on the core elements of a Digital Twin. The study encompasses various applications, such as the calibration and evaluation of partial discharge sensors, the synergy between design and operational management, and the utilization of disturbance signals for unconventional virtual temperature sensing.
