For 130 years, the PATON Thuringia State Patent Centre in Ilmenau has been nurturing and supporting ideas that drive innovation. Dr Christoph Hoock, Director of PATON | Thuringia State Patent Centre, together with his colleague, Ms Sabine Milde, will discuss the development of the region as a hub for innovation – and, by extension, the PATON Thuringia State Patent Centre – the importance of patents, trade marks and designs for research and business, and the people behind the inventions. An exciting insight into the past, present and future of the spirit of invention in Thuringia.
Strong on patents, ranked second: According to a study by the German Economic Institute, the TU Ilmenau is one of Germany’s most innovative universities. With 18 patent applications per 1,000 students, it ranked second nationwide between 2018 and 2022. Key factors behind this success are the close integration of cutting-edge research and practical application, as well as the support provided by the State Patent Centre PATON, which guides researchers every step of the way from idea to patent. The TU Ilmenau’s high ranking is also aided by its cooperation with affiliated institutes with a strong track record in patents, such as the Thuringian Institute for Textile and Plastics Research (TITK). PATON supports Thuringia’s universities primarily with patent searches, the evaluation of inventions and patent applications. It assists universities with intellectual property strategies and with technology transfer to businesses.
In addition, PATON’s range of services – which are available to all companies, start-ups, independent inventors, students and indeed all interested creative individuals – will be presented, including funding opportunities for the protection of ideas.
