Career orientation and answering the question "What does an engineer do?" through company tours, presentations by graduates of the degree programs or industry and business partners.

Interdisciplinary project: Students are divided into small teams and work together (across degree programs) on exciting and challenging projects. By integrating this component early on in the course, the need to acquire theoretical foundations becomes clearer. In addition, the project work supports a better anchoring of knowledge.

How does studying work? Integrated courses on key qualifications such as learning techniques, time management, academic work, project management and self-management.

Procedure

The orientation courses extend over the first two semesters of your Bachelor's degree and supplement your regular curriculum. You can apply for the following Bachelor's degree programs:

  • Biomedical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering and Information Technology
  • Automotive Engineering
  • Computer Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Mechatronics and
  • Industrial Engineering

Agreements on the type, certification and recognition of additional achievements are described in a study agreement. Upon successful completion of the orientation courses, participants in the orientation courses 2025/26 at the TU Ilmenau will be recognized for the basic internship.

Application

Registration is possible immediately, at the latest by October 10, 2025 (Freshman Week).

The number of places is limited!

Please send an e-mail to orientierung@tu-ilmenau.de with the subject "Application for orientation program", including the following information:

  • Surname, first name, e-mail address and degree program
  • Motivation for applying to participate in the orientation program (one or two sentences or bullet points are sufficient)
 

The final admission requires a valid enrollment at the TU Ilmenau in one of the Bachelor's degree programs listed above.
