Contributions are charges under public law. They are collected to cover the costs of public institutions (e.g., the Studierendenwerk), regardless of whether you in fact use the institution.
Unlike fees, which are due for the actual use of a service, the mere possibility of use is sufficient for contributions.
Semester contribution
The semester contribution is a compulsory, solidarity-based levy that is charged at all universities throughout Germany in varying amounts. Before each semester, the respective university collects the contribution on behalf of the payees for the Studierendenwerk and the Student Council. Payment of the semester contribution is a prerequisite for enrolment at the university and for re-registration each semester.
The semester contribution must be credited to the University account set up for this purpose no later than the last day of the re-registration period specified in the semester key points.
Late payments will be subject to a late fee (see below).
Semester contribution : Due date and Amount
Due date
The semester contribution is due during the re-registration period for the following semester. Please refer to the semester key points for the re-registration period for each semester.
After logging in to the Campus Portal with your Uni-Account, students can find the current daily amounts of the fees and contributions invoiced to them individually by the university as part of the re-registration under Payments in the Student Services section.
Please check the Student Services on the day of the bank transfer and only transfer the amounts invoiced to you personally.
Only use the bank details and the individual purpose of the bank transfer specified in the Student Services.
Semester contribution : Exemption and Repayment
The Contribution regulations of the Studierendenwerk Thüringen govern the amount of the semester contribution and the general conditions for exemption or repayment.
Requests for exemption or refund must be addressed exclusively to the Studierendenwerk Thüringen and the StuRa as the recipients of the semester contribution collected by the university on behalf of them.
Fees are monetary payments under public law that are imposed on the fee payer by a public-law provision or other sovereign measure in connection with individually attributable public services, and are intended to cover all or part of the costs of such services.
Fees : Regulations and Schedule

The fees are governed by the General Fee Schedule of the TUIL.
