The Association of Friends and Sponsors of Natural Sciences in Ilmenau e.V. and the Institute of Physics at Ilmenau University of Technology are organizing the popular science lecture series "Quantum in Ilmenau" to mark the 100th anniversary of quantum mechanics.
The lecture series will be continued by Professor Jörg Kröger, Head of the Group of Experimental Physics, who will speak on the topic "Matter waves - from 'old' quantum mechanics to modern quantum simulations".
The microscopic imaging of the electron waves postulated by de Broglies in the solid state forms the main part of the lecture. This is done with the help of scanning probe methods, above all the scanning tunnelling microscope, which are designed, optimized and used to research the quantum physics of matter in Professor Kröger's working group.
10.06.2025 - Prof. Dr. Thomas Hannappel: Solar energy
24.06.2025 - Prof. Dr. Siegfried Stapf: Nuclear magnetic resonance
08.07.2025 - Prof. Dr. Stefan Krischok: Photoelectric effect
The lectures take place on Tuesdays at 5:15 pm in the Faraday lecture hall of the TU Ilmenau (Weimarer Straße 32, new building, access via Prof.-Schmidt-Straße).
Admission to all events is free. All interested parties are welcome.
