Julia/stockadobecomJoin us for a light and lively start to 2026! On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, the Audimax will once again become a concert hall from 7.30 pm. We cordially invite you to an evening that combines academic tradition and musical passion in the most beautiful way.
Under the direction of Pamela R. Mayorga, the Academic Orchestra will present a program in the Audimax that is all about cheerful lightness.
You can look forward to the majestic "Kaiserwalzer" by Johann Strauss (son), the contemplative "Suite en forme de Valses" by French composer Mel Bonis and the enchanting Symphony No. 5 by Franz Schubert.
Review and outlook
In addition to the music, a fixed program item is traditionally part of our New Year's kick-off: Our President Kai-Uwe Sattler looks back on the most important highlights of the university year 2025 and gives an outlook on what 2026 has in store for studies, campus life and research. In addition, the professors who retired last year will be given a ceremonial farewell.
About the orchestra
The Academic Orchestra of TU Ilmenau will be playing for you. Originally founded in 1967 as a chamber orchestra of the former TH Ilmenau, the ensemble has been performing in a large symphonic formation since 2001. It brings together students, university staff and amateur musicians from the region. For large-scale projects such as this New Year's concert, the orchestra is also supported by professional musicians.
Admission is free - so come along spontaneously and celebrate the start of the new year with us! Admission: 18:30
