Vacuum Day at Technische Universität Ilmenau

How is a vacuum created and where is it used? These are the questions that Vacuum Day will explore, taking place on 25 August 2026 from 9.00 am to 3.30 pm at Technische Universität Ilmenau. As part of the event, which is being organised by the Centre for Micro- and Nanotechnologies in collaboration with Pfeiffer Vacuum+Fab Solutions, vacuum experts will provide students and anyone else interested with insights into vacuum technology and its applications.

The programme includes talks on the fundamentals of vacuum technology and various pumping principles, the development and operation of turbomolecular vacuum pumps, and mass spectrometry. In addition, participants will gain an insight into the components and chambers of modern vacuum systems. Workshops and practical demonstrations complement the technical presentations and illustrate the content using real-world examples.

University courses often focus on the physical and technical fundamentals. Vacuum Day complements this knowledge with an industrial perspective and demonstrates how theory is applied in research laboratories, analytical procedures and production processes. Participants gain insights into real-world applications and learn about the typical challenges faced by companies and research institutions in the field of vacuum technology.
