Founded in 1972, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM ) is a leading innovation-oriented, entrepreneurial research university for engineering and technology. It is located in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, as well as in Johor Bahru, the southern city in Iskandar Malaysia, a vibrant economic corridor in the south of Peninsular Malaysia.
There are currently around 24,780 students enrolled in degree programs across 13 faculties. Malaysia and the UTM are predominantly Muslim, which is why you should adhere to the dress code during your stay.
The double master's program takes place at the campus in Johur Bahru. The city is home to around 1.8 million inhabitants and has become an important transportation hub in recent years due to its proximity to Singapore.
As a student of TU Ilmenau, you will spend the second or third semester of the double master's program at the UTM in Malaysia. The Master's thesis can be written either in Malaysia or in Germany. You will agree the topic of your Master's thesis with your supervisor at the partner university and your home university. An overview of the study plan can be found in the study regulations for the Biomedical Engineering degree program leading to a Master of Science degree. Your Master's thesis will be jointly supervised and assessed by both universities.
Admission to the double degree program requires you to have successfully completed your Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering. You will also need a very good command of English at the time of admission (proof of English: TOEFL 550 (paper-based), TOEFL 213 (computer-based), TOEFL 78 (internet-based) or IELTS 6.0 band certificate).
Are you interested? Then apply to the relevant examination office with a letter of motivation and the above requirements. Participants in the double degree program are selected and admitted by a joint committee consisting of representatives from both universities. If there are several applicants, the decision will be based on the grade point average and the level of preparation.
