Application and procedure

Apply independently for a suitable internship abroad. We will gladly support you in your search with current internship offers or a query from our database.

• The submission of your application documents for Erasmus+ funding is initially also possible without specifying an internship position.
• Since all details of your internship are regulated in the Learning Agreement, we do not require an internship contract as part of the application.

• We accept your application on an ongoing basis. Ideally, you should submit your application about four months before you plan to start your internship.
• Applications received less than 2 month before the start of the traineeship can unfortunately not be considered. In this case, please contact us by phone.
• You haven't found a suitable internship yet? Submit your application with details of your desired target country - we will then be happy to support you in your search!

_{Each application for funding will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. There is no legal claim to funding. Funding is based on existing projects and financial resources. Funding is awarded on the basis of the rules agreed upon in the consortium of Thuringian universities in order to ensure equal participation of students from the universities. The project implementation is carried out according to the principles of equal treatment of the incoming applications.}

EU-Praktikum THÜRINGEN will prepare the necessary contract documents with you:

• Learning Agreement: regulates all internship activities and recognition and is signed by the intern, the internship site and the university.
• Grant Agreement: regulates the Erasmus+ funding.
• Rights and obligations are regulated in the Erasmus+ Student Charter.

• Before the start of and during your traineeship, you should take advantage of the OLS language support.
• Online language courses are offered in your working language as well as in the national language.

Please ensure that you have sufficient insurance coverage for the entire period of your internship abroad (including outward and return travel). By signing the grant agreement you have to confirm the existence of the following insurances:

• health insurance valid abroad
• accident insurance (for damages at the workplace)
• liability insurance (for damages at the workplace)

You can choose the appropriate insurance yourself. The DAAD offers a group insurance with the Tarif 720, which you can easily organize online

When planning your internship, also estimate your expenses abroad.

The Erasmus+ grant is not a full grant. The grant covers the additional expenses for an internship abroad.

Therefore, other sources of funding are often necessary in addition to the Erasmus+ grant.

• Internship pay: Payment and/or provision of non-cash benefits by the internship site is explicitly encouraged, but not a prerequisite for Erasmus+ funding.
• Auslands-BAföG: In addition to Erasmus+ funding, you may also apply for Auslands-BAföG. Grants of more than 300 euro per month will be counted towards BAföG benefits.
• Funding through the Erasmus+ program only excludes double funding from European Union funds.

If you decide to travel more than half of your journey with sustainable means of transport, you will receive up to 6 additional travel days that will be added to your funding period.

Your travel details will be recorded in a declaration on your honour during the application process. You must keep the receipts for your green travel for 5 years and show them on request.

Erasmus participants who fulfil the conditions for additional support can receive additional financial support (Erasmus+ funding). This applies to

•     parents with child(ren)
•     persons with a disability
•     people with a chronic illness
•     first-generation students (from project 2022)
•     employed students (from project 2022)

Your Top-Up Fewer Opportunities details will be recorded in a declaration on your honour during the application process. Necessary proof must be submitted with the application documents.

We recommend to contact EU-Praktikum THÜRINGEN for consultation at an early stage!

If there are any changes to the contents or the period during the internship, these must be communicated to EU-Praktikum THURINGIA immediately.

Your internship is going well? You can apply for an extension of the funding up to 30 days before the end of the internship.

Approximately one month before the end of the internship, you will receive templates for the final documents. Please submit the following documents within 30 days after the end of your internship:

• EU-Survey: Online survey of the European Commission
• Traineeship Certificate: Confirmation of the internship by the internship institution as proof of the duration of the stay and the internship activity.
• Evaluation: Questionnaire from EU-Praktikum THÜRINGEN on the internship experience
• Proof of recognition of the traineeship: form for confirmation of the traineeship by the responsible examination/internship office
• Proof of Green Travel: Tickets or similar documents must be kept by the participant for 5 years.

The Europass Mobility is a traineeship certificate that confirms your stay abroad as an Erasmus+ funded internship. Companies can use it to get a clear picture of the skills and competencies acquired abroad. The Europass

The Learning Agreement regulates the academic recognition of your internship:

• compulsory internships: Recognition of the ECTS in the Transcript of Records and in the Diploma Supplement.
• voluntary internships during studies: Recognition of the internship in the Diploma Supplement and, if applicable, in the Transcript of Records
• voluntary internships after graduation: issuance of the Europass Mobility as proof of the Erasmus+ supported internship.

Please submit the form for recognition confirmed by the examination office with your degree documents. In case the recognition process is still ongoing, please ask for permission to collect the proof later from your examination office.

Within 45 days after the end of the internship, we will make a final calculation based on your documents. At the official end, you will receive your Europass Mobility and the payment of the remaining amount of the Erasmus+ grant.
