From 12 to 15 May 2025, our colleague Carsten Gatermann participated in the 2025 Symposium of the Nordic Regional Council in CIGRÉ (NRCC). As part of the symposium, he presented his paper "Thermal Reserves of HVDC Underground Cables in Curative System Operation".
The paper presents the development of scenarios for the determination of thermal reserves in HVDC cables for use in curative system operation. In addition to the scenarios, the paper also presents a case study that examines the economic benefits of using thermal reserves for congestion management. The work was carried out as part of the OVANET3_0 project, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE).
