TU Ilmenau
On February 25, 2025, Technische Universität Ilmenau welcomed a high-ranking delegation from Satbayev University in Kazakhstan as well as representatives of the companies ALLUR AG and TOO "KSM (Kasakhselmash) Resources". The ten-member delegation, including the Rector of Satbayev University, Prof. Dr. Meiram Begentaev, was received by the President of Technische Universität Ilmenau, Prof. Dr. Kai-Uwe Sattler, and the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Prof. Dr. Thomas Sattel, with the participation of the International Office, Sophia Siegfried (Head).
In addition to discussing opportunities for cooperation between the two universities, the half-day visit focused on exciting insights into current research projects. In particular, developments in the fields of production technology, quality assurance and industrial image processing as well as plastics technology were presented in the machine hall and project hall. The delegation showed great interest in the innovative approaches and parallels between the two universities were identified through intensive exchanges with the scientists at TU Ilmenau.
The delegation trip was accompanied by LEG Thüringen (special thanks to Irina Heß, Project Manager Eastern Europe - Central Asia) and served to deepen international cooperation between science and industry. The delegation spent almost a week in Thuringia and experienced a varied program that included other Thuringian universities and companies. This also included the Ilmenau "Innovation Forge" with the TU Ilmenau, the Fraunhofer IOSB-AST and Fraunhofer IDMT.
Satbayev University in Almaty is the oldest technical university in Kazakhstan and was founded in 1934 as the Kazakh Mining and Metallurgy Institute. With around 14,000 students, it is one of the leading technical universities in the country and is characterized by its strong application orientation and close cooperation with industry. Through international partnerships and innovative research projects, it makes an important contribution to technological development in Central Asia.
TU Ilmenau is looking forward to promoting further exchange with Satbayev University.
