Engineering Day at the TU Ilmenau

The Alliance of Engineering Sciences invites you to the first "Engineering Day" on June 23. It is hosted by the Technische Universität Ilmenau as part of its dies academicus. The day is dedicated to teaching and young scientists. The Alliance of Engineering Sciences is an association of seven Thuringian universities that want to promote engineering sciences through cooperation in research and teaching.Due to the Corona pandemic, the morning event will be held via video conference. In the afternoon, thanks to state-of-the-art technology, a hybrid interactive format will be used for the first time allowing guests to be present and participants to be connected via videoconference at the same time. Registration for the event is requested: https://turm2.tu-ilmenau.de/course/open?ID=453.

The morning of the Engineering Day, which will be held via the WebEx video platform, will be devoted to teaching. Starting at 9 a.m., lecturers, students and representatives of professional practice from various disciplines at the participating Alliance universities will highlight the future of academic teaching in the engineering sciences in keynote speeches.

The afternoon will be dedicated to young scientists under the motto "Future - Innovation - Interdisciplinarity". The keynote lecture at 1 p.m. will be given by Prof. Stefan Nießen from Siemens AG and TU Darmstadt, who will address the future challenges of a sustainable energy supply. Prof. Nießen will also advise the Executive Board as a newly elected member of the University Council of the TU Ilmenau. From around 2 p.m. onwards, 30 young scientists from the Bauhaus University Weimar, the University of Applied Sciences Schmalkalden, the Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences Jena, the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt and the TU Ilmenau will shape the programme with a pitch and a project poster. The wide range of scientific work presented by the doctoral candidates from the partner universities offers all interested parties from Thuringia's universities and beyond the opportunity to become acquainted with the broad spectrum of engineering sciences in Thuringia and to exchange ideas in person. Participants will have the opportunity to rate the posters. The award ceremony for the three winning entries will be held by the chairwoman of the Ilmenau University Society, Prof. Dagmar Schipanski, at around 5:30 p.m. following the presentations.

The afternoon events will take place for the first time in an interactive hybrid format, participation is possible both in presence and online. This format is possible due to the equipment with state-of-the-art technology for seminars and lectures. With around 250,000 euros from the "Hochschullehre-Digital-Extra II" special fund of the Free State of Thuringia, the technical prerequisites for classroom and online lectures, so-called hybrid seminars, have been created in recent weeks in the Humboldt Building, the central and largest teaching building of the TU Ilmenau. For this purpose, the rooms were equipped with state-of-the-art video conferencing technology for recording and streaming as well as a wireless presentation system, which allows parallel work in presence with connected participants. Due to the corona pandemic at the TU Ilmenau restrictions apply, it is requested to register for the event: https://turm2.tu-ilmenau.de/course/open?ID=453.
