A group of employees and students from the Institute of Process Measurement and Sensor Technology visited the CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, near Geneva from 11 to 13 November 2024. Fascinating insights were gathered from the scientific exhibition. All historical developments since the founding of CERN up to the latest developments were described there and further experienced a part of it in reality while observing the actively used facilities. As part of the official group tour, the group visited several specialized laboratories that work on developing high- power electronics that operate at electric currents at more than 20 kA, as well as other laboratories where the development of high-precision measuring systems takes place.
This provided the participants with an overall scientific and technical overview and also gave them an opportunity to learn about current activities behind the scenes at CERN.
Further tours are planned for the upcoming years, since many developments could not be covered during such a short visit. Furthermore, it is because every year, a number of new and outstanding technological and scientific innovations come to life.
