It was a great pleasure to show the concept of a Carnot-Battery and our research on thermal energy storage to Bernhard Stengele, Minister in the Thüringer Ministerium für Umwelt, Energie und Naturschutz and Landrätin Petra Enders. As thermal energy has the major share of total energy consumption in Germany, its storage will play an important role for the decarbonization of our energy supply. In addition, Carnot batteries are suited to store surplus electric energy from renewables in thermal energy storages and produce electricity when needed. Such systems are currently under investigation within the Priority Program: "Carnot Batteries: Inverse Design from Markets to Molecules"(https://www.uni-due.de/spp2403/) of the German Research foundation.
