The police advice centre at the Gotha Regional Police Headquarters was established as a central point of contact for all members of the public. Through talks and advisory services, expert staff not only raise awareness of current crime trends, but also offer anyone interested a free, personalised consultation on how to protect themselves against burglary. Homeowners can seek advice directly in the exhibition rooms at the Gotha Regional Police Headquarters, whilst house and business owners can do so on site in a mobile advice unit.

In his talk at the TU Ilmenau Citizens’ Campus, Marco Kormann, who heads the Gotha Police Advice Centre, provides information on typical forms of fraud and theft that can particularly affect older people: risks over the telephone, at the front door, whilst out and about, and online. Using clear examples, Kormann explains how perpetrators operate and which everyday situations are particularly risky. This enables older people to recognise dangers at an early stage and react appropriately. Marco Kormann also highlights ways in which people can boost their sense of personal safety and how to act correctly in an emergency.
