Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq: Peter Arnett has spent several decades reporting from the world's theaters of war, often at considerable personal risk.
Mr. Arnett gained worldwide recognition for his role in CNN's live coverage of the commencement of US military airstrikes on Baghdad in 1991.
In celebration of Mr. Arnett's 90th birthday on November 13, 2024, WDR-Zeitzeichen takes a retrospective look at his most significant journalistic milestones.
War and crisis communication researcher Martin Löffelholz from Ilmenau University of Technology pays tribute in the program to the role of Arnett, who, despite making mistakes, is still regarded today as a role model for high-quality reporting on wars and conflicts. Löffelholz noted that Arnett's work is characterized by a commitment to accuracy and a willingness to delve deeply into the issues, even at personal risk.
