Progress on combined three-dimensional velocity and temperature measurements

A new development in an image-based simultaneous velocity and temperature measurement technique was recently published in Measurement Science and Technology. We showed that the extra heating caused by the light source affecting the temperature measurement was avoided by replacing the commonly used high-energetic pulsed-laser with an LED. With some further adaptations in the timing scheme, the costly high-speed camera was replaced by an ordinary PIV camera. With the lower cost of hardware devices, the adapted approach is a suitable measurement technique for various microfluidic-related research.
