A joint work of the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden and our group on acoustic tweezers was recently published in Lab on a Chip. We showed for the first time, that acoustic tweezers can heat up very quickly making their biocompatibility questionable under steady conditions. However, the different time scales revealed for the positioning and heating allows for elaborated manipulation strategies avoiding critical temperatures.
