During the Night of Libraries 2025 on April 4, libraries all over Germany will be celebrating under the motto "Knowledge. Share. Discover." for the first time nationwide. With a colorful program of readings, workshops, guided tours and a wide variety of events, they invite all citizens to rediscover libraries. Ilmenau also invites you to the Night of Libraries, when two libraries open their doors into the evening. The municipal library and the library of the TU Ilmenau are joining forces to organize an evening full of literature, information and entertainment.

During the Night of Libraries, visitors to both libraries can look forward to a varied program of readings, guided tours, hands-on activities and exciting insights into the world of books and media.

The Ilmenau City Library is pleased to extend its opening hours until 10 p.m. on the Night of the Libraries and invites you to a varied cultural and service experience. Visitors can not only benefit from the extensive services without restrictions, but also take part in a varied program. In addition to exciting activities such as a children's reading, a picture book cinema, a cozy games evening and a creative soldering workshop, the library offers a special highlight: new customers who register on this day receive the 2nd year included for the regular annual fee. There will also be plenty to eat and drink.

The University Library Ilmenau will open its doors to the public until 11pm on Library Night. In addition to guided tours and exhibitions, the textileLAB Open Doors, the first presentation of new devices and machines in the Makerspace of the University Library, will also take place: In addition to several sewing machines, an embroidery machine and a longarm quilting machine are now available to all registered guests free of charge.
