The photo retrospective "Shades of Jazz" in the University Library of the TU Ilmenau shows photos from the jazz stages of the world. The pictures come from the private collections of jazz lovers from Ilmenau and offer a very personal view of jazz history over the last 50 years. The exhibition, which kicks off the 50th Ilmenau Jazz Days, is open Monday to Saturday from April 22 to May 23. All interested parties are cordially invited to the exhibition and the vernissage on April 22, which will be musically accompanied by the world-famous trombonist Conrad "Conny" Bauer, admission is free.
In addition to the music itself, live in concert or captured on recordings, it is sometimes photography that shapes our idea of jazz. When we look at an iconic black and white record cover from the 1960s, the vinyl record suddenly plays in our heads and brings back the old sounds.
Photographers have always tried to capture the spirit of jazz music on their film reels - even from the smaller stages of this world. To mark the 50th anniversary of the Ilmenau Jazz Days, the Ilmenau Jazz Club rummaged through the treasure trove of photos taken by volunteer jazz workers and friends. The photo retrospective "Shades of Jazz" in the Ilmenau University Library, an exciting selection of images from the past decades, allows visitors to immerse themselves in the magic of jazz.
The vernissage on April 22 will be accompanied by the trombonist Conny Bauer, one of the formative protagonists of European jazz. As the exhibition documents, the trombonist, who was born in Halle in 1943, has always been a welcome guest in Ilmenau.
