How are the materials of the future developed? What materials are needed for hydrogen technologies, energy storage, superconducting cables, medical implants, or sensors? And how can tomorrow’s energy supply be made sustainable? Prospective students can find answers to these questions at the next admissions information session hosted by the Technical University of Ilmenau on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Erfurter Hof, Willy-Brandt-Platz 1, directly across from the main train station.
This time, the focus will be on the bachelor’s program in Materials Science, in which students take an interdisciplinary and hands-on approach to developing new materials for future-oriented fields such as energy supply, medical technology, aerospace, mobility, and information technology. Students benefit from outstanding academic and research conditions: With one of Europe’s largest university cleanrooms at the Center for Micro- and Nanotechnologies, TU Ilmenau provides its students with access to world-class research infrastructure even while they are still studying.
At the Erfurter Hof, visitors will gain insights into current research topics through vivid demonstrations and application examples, and learn how new materials are helping to solve the technological challenges of our time.
Prospective students can also learn about the new bachelor’s program in “Sustainable Energy Systems,” which will begin in the winter semester of 2026/27. The program combines engineering and natural sciences with topics such as renewable energy, energy storage, the circular economy, and sustainable development. With a broad range of elective courses, the program provides students with practical training to actively shape the energy transition and develop technical solutions for a climate-neutral future.
In addition, prospective students in Erfurt will receive information about related master’s programs such as Electrical Energy Systems, Renewable Energy Technology, or Electrochemistry and Electroplating, as well as the full range of programs offered by the Technical University of Ilmenau, which includes more than 40 bachelor’s and master’s programs in engineering, computer science, economics, media and communication studies, mathematics, and the natural sciences. There will also be tips on applying, starting your studies, and student life in Ilmenau. Applications for the 2026/27 winter semester are accepted until September 15.
