Medicines play an important role in the treatment and prevention of illnesses. To ensure they work reliably, it is crucial that they are used correctly. In practice, however, there is often uncertainty about how to handle medicines: whether it be taking them, dosing them or combining different preparations.

In his talk as part of the TU Ilmenau Citizens’ Campus, Dr Henning Danz, manager of the Lindenberg Pharmacy in Ilmenau, will provide an overview of the safe use of medicines. He explains why taking medicines at the correct time and following the instructions for use are important, and outlines the general rules for handling medicines. In doing so, Danz addresses typical everyday questions: whether to take medicines with or without food, combining them with other medicines, and how to store them correctly at home or whilst travelling. Through his talk, the pharmacist, who holds a PhD, aims to foster a better understanding of the safe handling of medicines and to raise awareness that even simple basic rules are crucial for the effectiveness and safety of treatment.
