Test phase databases Compendex and Knovel

April brings new search tools: the University Library is offering a three-month trial period for engineering database products from Elsevier. You can test the following databases free of charge until 06/30/2025:

  • Compendex: https://www.engineeringvillage.com
Compendex is a bibliographic database on engineering and technology, containing more than 18 million articles and abstracts from over 6,000 journals, congress proceedings and technical reports

  • Knovel: http://app.knovel.com
On the Knovel aggregator platform, you will find access to extensive technical reference works from various publishers, professional societies and organizations from all application areas of materials science. A special feature of the platform is the ability to search for material properties in full text, figures and equations and to extract numerical data points from characteristic curves and state curves. In addition, material equations can be identified in the underlying reference works.

Together with Compendex, the extensive patent database Patents Plus can also be used on a trial basis on the Engineering Village platform.

At the end of the test phase, we will evaluate the usage statistics and your feedback. TIB Hannover will then decide on the basis of the feedback - not only from us, but also from a number of other institutions - whether it will enter into consortium negotiations with the provider for licensing.

That's why we're calling on you to test them for all they're worth. Please let us know about your experiences with these databases and ask us if you have any questions.
