TU Ilmenau once again honoured with TOTAL E-QUALITY award for equal opportunities

The Technische Universität Ilmenau has once again been awarded the national quality certificate TOTAL E-QUALITY for its sustained commitment to equal opportunities and diversity. The TU Ilmenau has been awarded the certificate, which is valid for three years, for the seventh time in a row for the years 2025 to 2027. It is awarded by the non-profit association TOTAL E-QUALITY Germany, which recognizes organizations that are particularly committed to equality and diversity. The TOTAL E-QUALITY award will be presented today (04.11.2025) in Gelsenkirchen.

In 2006, TU Ilmenau was the first university in Thuringia to receive the national TOTAL E-QUALITY quality certificate, and it has been able to impress with every reapplication since then. In its reasons for awarding the certificate for the years 2025 to 2027, the jury praised TU Ilmenau for its consistent and sustainable implementation of equal opportunities, diversity and inclusive organizational development. The award confirms TU Ilmenau's continuous work on a responsible, future-oriented and value-based university culture.

TU Ilmenau significantly increases the proportion of women in scientific careers

As the only technical university in Thuringia, TU Ilmenau unites around 4,100 students and 1,600 employees in a broad range of subjects from the technical, natural and social sciences. With a research focus on sensor technology, artificial intelligence, green electronics and sustainable energy systems, it makes significant contributions to the scientific and technological development of Thuringia and Germany. Over the past three years, the university has significantly increased the proportion of women in scientific careers. It has succeeded in increasing the proportion of female doctoral candidates from seven to 18 percent, the proportion of female professors at W3 level from seven to ten percent and at W2 level from nine to eleven percent. Overall, the proportion of women among all employees is 38 percent, and 24 percent in the academic field. This development is the result of a long-term strategy and targeted support measures.

Jury recognizes TU Ilmenau's exemplary strategy for equal opportunities

The jury emphasized that the TU Ilmenau pursues an exemplary strategy for equal opportunities that comprehensively fulfills the TOTAL E-QUALITY standards in all fields of action. Particular emphasis was placed on the structural anchoring of equal opportunities work, transparent procedures and the close cooperation of all relevant stakeholders within the university.

Numerous programs to promote equal opportunities, diversity and inclusion

Proven programs include the "STEM Ambassadors at Schools" and the "Summer University for Schoolgirls", which inspire young women to study mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology at an early age. In addition, as a family-friendly university, TU Ilmenau promotes the compatibility of work, studies and private life through flexible working time models, childcare services and support structures for parents.

With the initiative "(K)ein Tabu an der TU", the university is also committed to mental health, respect and protection against discrimination. The close cooperation between the Equal Opportunities and Diversity Officer, Staff Council, psychological contact point and ombudspersons creates a solid foundation for prevention and support.
