Irena Michel, Managing Director of Thuringian Central Employment Agency, and Prof. Kai-Uwe Sattler, President of TU Ilmenau, sign a cooperation agreement

The Technische Universität Ilmenau and the Thuringia Central Employment Agency will work closely together in the future to counteract the shortage of personnel in the natural sciences and engineering in the Thuringian labor market. Prof. Kai-Uwe Sattler, President of TU Ilmenau, and Irena Michel, Managing Director of Agentur für Arbeit Thüringen Mitte, signed an agreement today (Jan. 12, 2023), according to which the two partners will increasingly prepare pupils, students and graduates for the requirements of the labor market and support them in career orientation.

The new cooperation agreement stipulates that the TU Ilmenau and the Thuringia Central Employment Agency will support young people in their choice of studies while they are still at school and accompany them in their career orientation until after their studies. In the schools, the Employment Agency offers events on study orientation; students receive advice on the requirements of the national and international job market; and graduates of the university are supported in the transition from study to work.

In the future, school students will be able to participate in project days for orientation in STEM subjects. Their professional aptitude in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology will be determined in tests by the business psychology service of the Thuringia Central Employment Agency. The employment agency also supports the TU Ilmenau at university fairs and at events for study orientation such as the trial study or the CampusThüringenTour for schoolgirls.During their studies, students and graduates of the TU Ilmenau and other universities are individually advised by experts from the Employment Agency at the university's Academic Service Center. They offer checks of their application portfolios as well as the development of a strategy for successful self-marketing. The services offered by the Employment Agency also include a job exchange and advice and support for start-ups. The Employment Agency also regularly informs the university about current developments and the opportunities for university graduates in the region, in Germany and abroad.
