TU Ilmenau/Barbara AichrothThe Technische Universität Ilmenau has signed a cooperation agreement with Kanto Gakuin University in Yokohama, Japan. The agreement aims to expand academic and educational cooperation and promote mutual understanding between the two universities. The agreement was initiated by the Thuringian Institute for Textile and Plastics Research Rudolstadt, TITK, an affiliated institute of TU Ilmenau, which has been working with the Japanese university since 2006.
The cooperation between TU Ilmenau and Kanto Gakuin University will focus on the exchange of students, scientists, faculty members and administrative staff. There will be a close exchange in both research and teaching: Joint research projects and symposia are planned, as well as lectures for students from both universities and the exchange of academic information and materials.
The agreement between the two universities was initiated by the Thuringian Institute for Textile and Plastics Research Rudolstadt, a research institute for polymer functional and construction materials, which has been working with the Japanese university since 2006. The TITK is an affiliated institute of the TU Ilmenau, i.e. an independent research institute that is closely linked to the TU Ilmenau. The cooperation agreement signed by the President of TU Ilmenau, Prof. Kai-Uwe Sattler, was presented by TITK Director Benjamin Redlingshöfer during his visit to the World Expo in Osaka, Japan, to the President of Kanto Gakuin University, Prof. Dr. Yoshinari Koyama, who in turn has now signed it.
TU Ilmenau and TITK have been working closely together on many levels for over 20 years. Professor Jens Müller, Vice President for International Affairs and Transfer at TU Ilmenau, was very pleased with the cooperation agreement: "In addition to transnational research, it opens up great opportunities through our affiliated institute TITK in Rudolstadt, especially in the direct transfer of research results to industry - an advantage that cannot be overestimated in increasingly global research and economic areas."
