Andreas HeckelAs part of its cultural series "Music in the Audimax", the TU Ilmenau is hosting a summer concert on July 1 at 7:30 pm. The Academic Orchestra of the TU Ilmenau promises a romantic concert evening ranging from Baroque mythology to Bohemian Romanticism and Scandinavian late Romanticism. Admission costs 10 euros, concessions 5 euros.
The TU Ilmenau Academic Orchestra, conducted by Pamela Mayorga, will begin the concert evening with Ludwig van Beethoven's Overture to "The Creatures of Prometheus", op. 43. Composed in 1801, the work captivates with its triumphant character, which musically brings the mythological story of the Titan Prometheus to life.
This will be followed by the four-movement Serenade, op. 6, by Czech composer Josef Suk. Written in 1892, this youthful work by Dvořák-Schüenchants with its lyrical melody in a characteristic böhmic tone. Suk was only 18 years old when he composed the Serenade, but today it is one of his most popular works.
Finally, the orchestra will present the rarely performed Symphony No. 2 in A minor by Swedish composer Elfrida Andrée. As one of Sweden's first professional organists and a pioneer of the women's movement, Andrée also created an impressive body of compositional work. Her second symphony deserves to be made known to a wider audience, as it combines romantic tradition with an independent musical language.
