Our current research on flow and temperature measurements in thermal energy storage systems was presented in a TV report on MDR Thüringen Journal. Using new measurement methods, the investigation of parasitic wall flows in thermal stratified storage tanks is essential for increasing storage efficiency. Used in a Carnot battery, such a storage system can temporarily store large quantities of surplus electrical energy from volatile, renewable energy sources in the form of heat and convert it back into electricity when required.
