Two New Publications with the Participation of the MCM Group

The MCM group is pleased to announce two recent publications in the Journal of Media Business Studies, in which members of our team contributed as co-authors. Both articles originated from the exchange and collaboration fostered during the emma Hub 2023 of the European Media Management Association in Warsaw.

Publication involving the participation of Prof. Dr. Andreas Will

"A media CSR model for wartime contexts"

This publication examines how media organizations in eight European countries responded to the war in Ukraine through measures of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Based on a comparative analysis of 203 documented initiatives, the author team develops a four-dimensional model for media CSR in times of war and crisis. The model differentiates between activity type, temporal phase, organizational depth, and target groups, illustrating how journalistic, civic, and organizational logics intertwine in exceptional circumstances.
The article enriches CSR scholarship by offering a media-specific perspective that is particularly relevant for extraordinary crisis contexts.

Publication involving the participation of Research Associate Miriam Bernhard

"Fear factor: a scoping study of the role of fear in news media management during crises"

This study systematically analyzes the role of fear in media organizations during crisis situations. Drawing on a review of 18 peer-reviewed academic articles, the scoping study identifies how internal and external fear factors influence journalistic autonomy, mental health, and organizational decision-making processes. The findings show that fear is not only an individual phenomenon but also has structural implications for newsroom management.
The article also highlights the considerable need for additional research, particularly with regard to different media functions and crisis scenarios.
