Last week, the CCS group ended the week with a highlight: a one-day online workshop entitled "Introduction to Actor Sampling and Data Collection on Telegram", led by Dr. Kilian Buehling. The workshop took place on November 7, 2025 and brought together nine participants for an interactive and insightful session.
Over the course of the day, participants explored Telegram as a hybrid social media platform and learned about different methods to collect digital data from public Telegram channels and chat groups. The workshop offered both conceptual and practical insights - from the workings and community dynamics on Telegram to the use of the platform by social movements and how different sampling approaches can influence research findings.
In the practical part, participants were guided through manual data collection as well as automated techniques using the Telegram API, providing them with valuable tools for their future research.
