The basic fee for the Thuringia Student Services Association will remain at €95 for the 2026/2027 winter semester, the same as in the previous semester. All students at Thuringia’s public universities pay this fee so that the Thuringia Student Services Organization can fulfill its social mission on behalf of students—from subsidizing student meal prices and supporting cultural initiatives to helping fund counseling and other services.
In addition, there is the Kulturticket in Jena and Erfurt, which provides free admission to events and facilities in the city. The price for this also remains unchanged at €4.25 (Jena) and €3.00 (Erfurt).
Nevertheless, the semester fee for students in Thuringia will increase for the 2026/2027 winter semester—because the Germany Semester Ticket will become €18 more expensive, costing €226.80. This is because the price of the regular Germany Ticket increased from €58 to €63 per month at the start of the year. This price increase now affects the cost of the Germany Semester Ticket for students, though they will still receive a 40% discount:
€63 (cost of the Germany Ticket per month) x 6 months (valid for one semester) x 0.6 (40% discount) = €226.80 (cost of the Germany Semester Ticket per semester)
Students receive this discount because the Germany Semester Ticket, just like the basic fee for the Studentenwerk Thüringen, is a ticket based on the solidarity model: All students at a university pay for and receive the Germany Semester Ticket—regardless of whether they use it or not. The decision to implement the Germany Semester Ticket under the solidarity model for students at a university rests with the respective student body.
The semester fee also includes a contribution for the student council.
As a result, the semester fee varies depending on the university. An overview is available on our website.
