Award for patent SoundInSpace

In collaboration between the Department of Virtual Worlds and Digital Games and the Department of Electronic Media Technology, the gold medal was achieved for the patent "SoundInSpace: Audiovisual Augmentation for Activities in Space". The researchers Tobias Schwandt, Annika Neidhardt, Florian Klein, Stephan Werner and Wolfgang Broll presented a concept for the creation of an earth-like atmosphere in space to improve the situational awareness of astronauts. With an artificial environment, artificial ambient sounds can be augmented, device states can be made audible, or virtual avatars can be embedded with 3D audio, even in low-sound situations.

The gold medal was awarded by a jury of experts at iENA 2022.
