FAQ Ilmenauer Discovery Tool

The Ilmenauer Discovery Tool offers the possibility to search data from the following sources simultaneously:

• Common Union Catalogue (GVK) of the Common Library Network (GBV) and the Library Network Southwest Germany (SWB)
• Union Catalogue of Public Libraries (ÖVK)
• Digital objects and data from National Licences
• Data from Specialised Information Services (Fachinformationsdienste)
• Article and journal data from
  • PubMed/Medline
  • JSTOR Digital Library
  • Springer E-Journals
  • the publisher Elsevier
  • the publisher Wiley
  • the publisher De Gruyter
  • the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)
• Data from preprint archives
• Data of clinical studies from the database ClinicalTrials.gov
• Journal article data from the Online Contents Database (OLC)
• Article and journal data from Periodicals Index Online (1739-2000)
• Digital objects and data from the Universal Multimedia Electronic Library (UrMEL)

For some data that can be searched via the Ilmenauer Discovery Tool, there are access restrictions for licensing reasons:

• Journal article data from the Online Contents Database (OLC)

are only searched when accessing within the IP range of the TU Ilmenau or if you are accessing from outside the IP range of the TU Ilmenau but logged into the Ilmenauer Discovery Tool via the user account.

• Article and journal data from Periodicals Index Online (1739-2000)

are only searched when accessing within the IP range of the TU Ilmenau or if you are logged in as student, faculty or staff of the TU Ilmenau via the user account.

If you would like to search the data from the Online Contents Database via the Ilmenauer Discovery Tool from outside the university network, please log in to the Ilmenauer Discovery Tool with your library login. Students, faculty or staff can also access the data from Periodicals Index Online (1739-2000) in the same way.

Alternatively, as a university member you have the option of opening a VPN connection to the TU Ilmenau. All your internet traffic must be processed via the TU Ilmenau for the duration of the access. Use the VPN profile "VPN-extern-full" of the UniRZ for this purpose (https://intranet.tu-ilmenau.de/site/unirz/SitePages/TUILM-VPN.aspx).

As the sorting of all media on the shelves of the Ilmenau University Library follows the Regensburger Verbundklassifikation (RVK), a survey of this scheme is provided in IDT. You find the link on the RVK overview page in the footer of IDT. Please note that not all information centers and data providers use the RVK and therefore not all data records in the IDT can be searched for in this way.
